Corbin for Council 2010

   If elected, I will:

  • Be a policy-maker, not a micromanager. I will respect the city manager's role as the City's chief executive.

  • Listen to you, consider all sides of the issues, and make decisions based on what is best for the community.

  • Limit the role of outside consultants to make certain we do not outsource critical decisions impacting our future.

  • Protect the environment. We must protect our groundwater, our night sky and our rural character. Desert tortoise habitat areas should be identified to ensure this threatened species is protected to the fullest extent possible.

  • Encourage public art, recognize its value to the success of our community and do everything possible to attract tourism and keep tourists in the community.

  • Promote fiscal conservatism; always balance the budget. Reduce development fees.

  • Support the efforts of Sky's the Limit to build an observatory in the City.

  • Retain our rural character. Rural areas comprise more than half of our city and these areas should remain rural but be allowed to develop responsibly. Rural standards for development should be implemented.

  • Beautify our commercial corridor. We should dedicate the resources necessary to make sure we always look our best.

  • Support law enforcement to keep crime low and ensure that our neighborhoods are safe.

  • Advance policies that promote commercial growth. We need restaurants, gift shops, art galleries and retail stores; citizens want to buy locally and we must provide an environment conducive to this growth.

  • Ensure that we retain our community identity. Our historic population growth rate is about 2%. We have no interstate and no significant transportation means to attract large industry or explosive growth. We can continue this slow steady growth and still be uniquely Twentynine Palms.

  • Advocate more parks; parks that are within walking distance to a majority of residents.

  • Encourage development of our geothermal resources and advance programs to encourage their use in attracting tourism.
