Corbin for Council 2010

Professional Background:

I have a diverse background in business and government. After nearly twenty years in broadcast management I began my career as a land use planner; first for the Town of Yucca Valley and then as community development director for the City of Twentynine Palms. For the past five years I have owned Corbin Planning, a land use and environmental consulting business here in Twentynine Palms. For information on services offered by Corbin Planning, go to http://www.corbinplanning.com/.

Why Vote for Jay Corbin:

For the past 15 years I have regularly attended city council and planning commission meetings, giving me a good understanding of the issues.  My experience includes work on both sides of the counter at city hall; I've processed land use applications as the community development director and as a consultant for my clients. This experience gives me a unique understanding of the development process. In July 2000 I earned a certificate in Land Use and Environmental Planning from the University of California-Riverside.

I have the background and training to be effective.

To avoid any possible conflict of interest, I will suspend my business as a planning consultant within the city during the time I serve on the city council. I will act on behalf of all citizens to implement policies that make this an even better place to live.

As you read my campaign platform, you can see that I will focus much of my efforts on efficiency in our local government and increasing economic prosperity, however, I am not running as "development" candidate. A viable and vibrant city needs more than just retail sales; we need more public art, greater housing opportunities, clean air, clear night skies, a functional roadway network, responsive government, and reasonable development standards that protect the environment without placing an undue hardship on citizens.

If elected, I will work toward implementing policies that make our city even greater.
